The S30601-NA-ARM9-031 is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S300 Servo Drives series. The unit converts three-phase mains power into a controlled DC bus voltage and modulated output so it can regulate motor torque and velocity in automated pick-and-place axes, packaging lines, and general motion platforms. Within an automation cell, it functions as the power amplifier between a motion controller and the attached servomotor. Commands from the motion controller are translated into precisely regulated motor current, allowing the connected axis to follow programmed speed and torque profiles. This arrangement supports closed-loop motion when the drive is paired with a compatible motor feedback device.
The drive accepts a three-phase input voltage of 208–480 V and draws up to 5 kVA at full load. The power section delivers a continuous motor current of 6 A rms, while the DC-link voltage can rise to 900 VDC before overvoltage protection engages. Current is switched at 8 kHz, and the drive increases the switching frequency to 16 kHz when the output stage is loaded to 50 percent or less. A current form factor of 1.01 keeps the rms and average values nearly identical. At a 400 V supply voltage, the motor windings must provide at least 5.6 mH of inductance to prevent excessive current ripple. With a residual voltage drop of 5 V across the inverter bridge, the device produces a voltage rise rate of 5.7 kV/µs. Electromechanical contactors may cycle up to 30 times per hour without placing undue stress on the drive.
Momentary overloads are supported by a peak current capability of 12 A rms. Regenerated energy can be dissipated through an external brake resistor rated at 1.0 kW or through the built-in resistor, which has a resistance of 91 Ω and a power tolerance of 50 W. Thermal losses are 12 W when the drive is disabled and 90 W during rated operation, allowing cabinet ventilation to be planned around the expected heat output. Safe shutdown is provided by the certified STO circuit, which removes torque-producing power when the safety function is activated. Onboard CANopen communication connects the unit to higher-level controllers without requiring additional communication hardware. The drive also monitors operating conditions so protective functions can respond to excessive voltage, current, or temperature.
