The S30601-FN is a digital servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen as a member of the S300 Servo Drives series. It accepts three-phase utility power, rectifies it, and produces a pulse-width-modulated output that commands matched servo motors. In automated packaging, assembly, or material-handling stations, the drive supplies precisely regulated torque and speed so axes can synchronize with process sequences. Its compact format allows cabinet integration beside PLCs and other motion modules without excessive heat buildup or wiring complexity.
From an electrical standpoint, the drive handles an input of 208–480 V across its three lines and draws up to 5 kVA when operating at maximum load. The continuous motor current available at the output stage is 6 A rms, while dynamic moves can be supported with a peak capability of 12 A rms. Current is switched by IGBT devices cycling at 8 kHz, a rate that limits ripple and acoustic noise. Inside the power section, a DC bus rises to 900 V DC, and a 91 Ω brake resistor absorbs regenerated energy with an allowance of 50 W so routine deceleration does not overvoltage the DC link. If more braking is required, a 1.0 kW external resistor can be wired to the terminal strip. Total thermal losses are 90 W, a figure that must be removed by cabinet airflow or the drive’s integral fan.
Thermal management is aided by a controlled fan that activates when the brake dissipates 30 W, when the heat sink reaches 65 °C, or when the internal temperature sensor climbs to 58 °C. These thresholds keep semiconductor junctions below their limits during repeated braking events. Functional safety is built in, and the drive includes the STO circuit that interrupts torque within 1 ms and meets the SIL2 integrity level, so the unit can support ISO 13849 stop requirements without external contactors.
