Kollmorgen manufactures the S30101-SN within its S300 Servo Drives series. The unit is an AC servo drive that conditions three-phase mains power and delivers controlled DC bus energy to synchronous or induction servomotors in industrial automation cells. By integrating drive electronics with network communication, it forms the interface between the higher-level motion controller and the motor, handling torque generation, velocity regulation, and safe shutdown tasks. This arrangement allows the drive to respond directly to command updates while continuously regulating motor behavior. Because drive regulation and communication are housed together, the module can manage motor response with minimal external interface hardware. It is suited to coordinated axis control in packaging, handling, and similar automated equipment where repeatable motion is required.
The drive draws up to 1.2 kVA of continuous input power from three-phase supplies from 208 to 480 V without derating. Internally, it converts this input to a regulated DC bus and then switches the output stage at 8 kHz to supply smooth current to the motor phases. At rated load, the inverter delivers 1.5 A rms while dissipating 40 W as heat, and its idle loss is limited to 12 W to reduce cabinet heating during standby. These values support compact cabinet layouts where thermal buildup must be controlled. Stable current delivery is also important when low-speed smoothness and quick correction of load changes are needed. The current loop bandwidth is matched to the switching frequency so position loops in the controller are not compromised by phase lag.
For braking events, the unit can route surplus energy to an external resistor of 91 Ω, protecting the DC link, which can reach a maximum of 900 VDC. Functional safety is supported by the integrated STO circuit, which removes gate drive to the output stage without relying on contactors. Environmental protection is classified as IP20, so the device must be mounted inside a control cabinet. The cabinet-mounted format also keeps live power sections enclosed during normal machine operation. Communication to the motion network is through the SynqNet interface with two RJ45 ports, while discrete control lines terminate on a 15-pin Sub-D socket. The aluminum housing measures 70 mm wide, 171 mm deep, and 275 mm high, and it weighs 2.7 kg for dense side-by-side installation.
