The S30101-PN is a servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen for the S300 Servo Drives series. It conditions power from a three-phase AC source and delivers controlled current and voltage to a matched motor so that industrial axes hold position, follow velocity profiles, or generate constant torque as required by automated equipment. This drive also supports PROFINET RT communication, letting a PLC issue deterministic motion commands over a standard Ethernet backbone without additional gateways.
The device accepts an input range of 208–480 V AC and refreshes its current vectors every 62.5 µs, which keeps torque ripple low during rapid transients. Inside the inverter stage, the IGBTs switch at 8 kHz; this switching frequency balances dynamic response with manageable switching losses. The continuous motor supply is limited by a rated current of 1.5 A rms, while the incoming mains draw cannot exceed 1.2 kVA. A position loop closes every 250 µs, and the velocity loop reaches 400 Hz, yielding 0.01% speed regulation when the motor is properly tuned. Field-level integration is simplified by the PROFINET RT port, and motion commutation stays synchronized because the drive updates the velocity feed-forward table within each sample period.
The power section can operate on a DC bus up to 900 VDC, and short bursts of load inertia are handled by a peak output capability of 4.5 A rms. Excess kinetic energy is absorbed by a built-in 91 Ω brake resistor; this network can dissipate an internal regen power of 40 W, matched to the 40 W heat generated at full electrical load and the 12 W produced under quiescent conditions. Safe torque interruption is provided through the certified STO function, allowing motor torque to be removed without powering down the control electronics.
