The S30101-PB servo drive is manufactured by Kollmorgen and belongs to the S300 Servo Drives series. Designed for closed-loop control of synchronous or induction servomotors, it modulates three-phase mains power to match commanded motion profiles in automated machinery, packaging lines, and material-handling cells. By integrating fieldbus communication and safety circuitry into a compact housing, the unit simplifies panel layout while supplying precise torque, velocity, and position control required across industrial automation.

The three-phase input accepts 208–480 V, allowing the same unit to be wired to low- or high-voltage networks without tap changes. At nominal load, it delivers 1.5 A rms of output phase current while drawing up to 1.2 kVA from the line. Power is metered through an insulated-gate bridge that switches at 8 kHz, setting the fundamental resolution of the motor voltage waveform and influencing acoustic noise. Fast control loops complement that carrier rate: the velocity loop is refreshed every 62.5 µs, the commutation loop follows the same interval, and the position loop is recalculated every 250 µs, supporting smooth motion even on high-inertia axes. A PROFIBUS expansion card provides deterministic set-point exchange with PLCs.

Under continuous motion, the electronics release 40 W of full-load heat, while quiescent standby drops to 12 W; an internal resistor absorbs another 40 W of regenerated energy during braking. The DC bus can rise to 900 VDC, so cabling and filtering must be rated accordingly. Speed stability is specified at 0.01 %, aided by a velocity loop bandwidth of 400 Hz that counters load disturbances rapidly. Functional safety is integrated through the STO circuit qualified to SIL2, eliminating external contactors for many risk-reduced stop modes.
