Product Description:

The S30101-DN is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the S300 Servo Drives series. The unit converts three-phase mains energy into controlled pulse-width-modulated power for brushless servomotors, letting a motion controller command precise torque, velocity, or position. Used inside packaging lines, pick-and-place axes, or test rigs, the drive supplies regulated current, monitors circuit faults, and provides an integrated Safe Torque Off channel for modern automation.

At the power terminals, the drive accepts 208...480 V three-phase AC and draws a rated input power of 1.2 kVA. Under those conditions, its continuous output capability is 1.5 A rms, with a peak reserve of 4.5 A rms for acceleration or shock loads; the output current form factor is 1.01, so motor current remains nearly sinusoidal. Internally, the DC link can rise to 900 VDC, and an overvoltage circuit disconnects the bridge at that same value. Communication is handled by a DeviceNet expansion card; the bus is isolated to 500 V, supports 64 logical nodes, and is terminated by a 120 Ω resistor when the drive occupies the segment end. IGBT switching takes place at 8 kHz, and the housing releases 12 W at idle and 40 W at rated load to ambient air.

Dynamic behavior is bounded by a minimum motor inductance of 17.8 mH at 480 V and by a voltage slew rate of 6.9 kV/µs, which are used when verifying cable stress and insulation class. For acoustic or EMI-sensitive installations, the PWM carrier rises to 16 kHz once the current setpoint is reduced, while commanded power cycling is limited to 30 switching operations per hour to control thermal fatigue. The integrated safety input provides STO (Safe Torque Off), removing gate-drive energy and ensuring that the motor produces no sustained torque when the channel is asserted.

Internal Product Review

  • ‘‘The S30101-DN is a well-executed Kollmorgen S300 servo drive featuring a DEVICENET expansion card and STO (Safe Torque Off). Operation across 208...480V input with 1.5A rms rated current gives the unit practical flexibility for servo integration. DEVICENET capacity for 64 nodes makes the drive especially appealing for coordinated multi-axis systems.’’
