The S20630-CNS servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S200 Servo Drives series. The unit converts low-voltage DC bus energy into regulated three-phase outputs for brushless motors, giving compact machinery the closed-loop accuracy needed for packaging lines, electronic assembly stations, and small conveyors. Acting as the dedicated power stage between a motion controller and the motor, it supplies the current loop bandwidth and position fidelity that industrial automation tasks demand. This arrangement lets the controller handle command generation while the drive manages current regulation at the motor.

At a bus voltage of 75 VDC, the drive supplies up to 500 W of continuous output power, and it can deliver 250 W at 40 °C. The DC link may be energized up to 90 VDC, and the continuous phase current is 6 ARMS with a peak capability of 18 ARMS. A PWM carrier fixed at 31.2 kHz minimizes audible noise and current ripple. Motors presenting up to 15 mH of phase inductance can be driven without instability. The control stage draws 20 W and should be protected by a 15 A fuse. Motion commands are executed in Position Node mode over CANopen, and optional SynqNet boards add EnDat 2.1 absolute encoder, sine encoder, or CAN-based SFD/Comcoder feedback channels, while every standard unit already accepts SFD and Hall sensor signals.

For stable operation on low-voltage buses, the application must present at least 4000 µF of external capacitance to the DC link, and connected motors must offer not less than 0.2 mH of phase inductance. The drive can sustain peak current for 3 s before returning to its continuous rating. Its housing is 152.4 mm high, 48.3 mm wide, and 100.8 mm deep, enabling high-density side-by-side mounting. The narrow housing also helps conserve rail space in dense control cabinets. These dimensions support compact panel layouts while leaving space for an internal feedback expansion card when that option is required.
