The 502-03994-00R0 control board is produced by Kollmorgen and belongs to the PIC900 Drives series. Installed in the drive rack, the board provides supervisory processing, memory, and serial links so the PIC900 drive can execute motion profiles, parameter management, and diagnostic routines inside an automation cell. By combining an embedded 80486-class CPU with dedicated application and user memory, it coordinates torque, velocity, and position commands between the higher-level PLC and the power stage.
Its software resources include 512 K of application memory for the compiled PicPro program that runs at power-up. Volatile workspace is provided by 256 K of RAM, while a separate 64 K user area stores recipe or calibration data that can be rewritten during operation. The 80486DX2 core runs at 50 MHz, allowing math routines for servo loops to execute within the PIC900 scan time. The isolated PicPro RS-232 channel operates at a maximum rate of 115.2 K baud for program transfer and drive setup. The module remains functional in ambient temperatures from 7 °C to 55 °C, covering typical control-cabinet conditions without additional cooling.
For replacement, the card slides into a 41 × 305 × 213 mm slot and connects to the backplane through edge connectors. A lithium cell maintains nonvolatile data, and its quiescent draw is only 15 µA, which helps extend battery life during normal storage and operation. Total onboard memory reaches 1 Megabyte, combining program, user, and system areas, and contents are protected when the drive is stored between −40 °C and 85 °C. The user serial port operates at 19.2 K baud with RTS/CTS handshaking, allowing external HMIs to read registers without conflicting with the PicPro link.
