The 502-03843-00 discrete I/O module is produced by Kollmorgen for the PIC900 Drives series. Installed in a drive rack, it gathers field sensor states and energizes low-power actuators so motion controllers can respond to machine conditions without separate PLC hardware. The card’s 4000-volt isolation, fused outputs, and backplane power interface make it suitable for packaging lines, web handling equipment, and other motion-centric cells where deterministic I/O scanning must occur inside the servo system envelope. Keeping the I/O functions inside the rack also reduces the need for separate signal-handling hardware elsewhere in the machine.

On the input side, the board provides 16 digital channels. Each channel accepts up to 30 VDC and turns on at 14 VDC, switching off below 5 VDC. The asserted point draws 2.8 mA, while surges can reach 7.5 mA @ 30 VDC. Pull-ups limit leakage to 0.5 mA, which helps prevent false indications when source impedance is high. Per-input draw is 7 mA at +5 V, and the section dissipates 3.6 W @ 32 VDC when all points are active. Core logic draws 30 mA @ 5 V, so slot loading must be considered. Because that energy is converted to heat on the card, cabinet airflow must accommodate the combined logic and field dissipation. Opto-isolation rated 4000 V peak separates field wiring from the processor bus.

The output stage offers 8 sinking drivers. Each channel supports 0.4 A continuous and pulls the line to 1.8 VDC at full load during sustained duty. Driver heating totals 4.0 W @ 32 VDC, and the shared output supply is protected by a 3 A, 250 VAC, 5 × 20 mm fuse. Off-state leakage stays under 0.5 mA, and 4000 V peak isolation shields the control electronics from field wiring. The sinking outputs are suited to relays, lamps, and other low-power control loads. This arrangement allows the module to switch external loads while keeping the rack electronics electrically separated from the output circuits.
