The 502-03786-02R2 is a high-speed counter and encoder interface card manufactured by Kollmorgen for use in the PIC900 Drives series. Installed in a drive rack, the module collects position data from incremental encoders and receives pulse information generated by feedback devices on moving axes. It converts those pulse streams into digital count information for motion control loops and diagnostic logging, giving the drive system a direct way to track direction, position changes, and operating status in automated machinery. By processing encoder feedback at the rack level, it supports closed-loop motion tasks that depend on timely count updates rather than slower supervisory polling.

This board supports 4 independent channels, and each channel uses a bidirectional 24-bit up/down counter with a separate latch for snapshot values captured during machine events. For optical or magnetic sensors, the encoder supply delivers up to 30 mA @ 16.5 VDC, and the fast input stage is referenced to 24 VDC during normal operation so common industrial encoder signals can be connected directly. The logic section draws 572 mA @ +5 V, and the card dissipates 7.4 W during continuous operation, so the backplane must provide steady low-voltage power while the enclosure manages the resulting heat. A minimum pulse width of 0.6 µs supports accurate counting with high-resolution encoders, and the fast inputs tolerate surges up to 30 VDC to help limit the effects of wiring transients on the counter circuitry.
