The Kollmorgen 502-03640-02 is an I/O module. Specifically it is a 32-point output module rated for nominal 24 Volts DC. The range of voltages supported by the module output channels is 5 to 32 Volts DC. The field side connector on the 502-03640-02 is a 40-pin card edge connector with screw type terminals. Protection of logic circuits is enabled through optical isolation between the logic side and the field side of the module. Output channels on the 502-03640-02 are grouped into four groups of 8 solid-state switches. Each group of output channels can use its own DC supply or one DC supply may be daisy-chained. A fast-acting, UL rated metric fuse is provided for each group of 8 switches. The fuse is rated for 3 Amps / 250 volts AC.

The maximum current per group of output channels on the 502-03640-02 is 2 Amps continuous. Each output on the module is rated at 0.4 Amps continuous. The 502-03640-02 has a LED indicator for each output channel. A diagnostic LED on the module turn off when the module has passed the diagnostic test at power-on. The switches on the 502-03640-02 are solid-state switches. The ON time delay for resistive loads is maximum 30 microseconds and the OFF time delay for resistive loads is maximum 300 microseconds. The maximum ON switch voltage level is 1.8 Volts DC at 0.4 Amps. The maximum surge current is 2.5 Amps for 40 milliseconds. When a scan loss occurs, all outputs on the 502-03640-02 are reset to the OFF state. At 5 Volts, the module draws 25 milliamps per energized output channel. The peak field-side power dissipation for the module is 15.8 Watts.
