The Kollmorgen 502-03638-61 is a CPU module. It is compatible with PiC900 systems. It must be installed in the second slot from the left in the system rack. The 502-03638-61 is a Turbo model which is clocked at 16 Megahertz. The front panel of the module features a diagnostic LED and interfaces for two RS-232 ports. The PiCPro serial port, with 9-pin D connector, is provided for communication with workstations. This port is used when downloading an application program from the workstation to the RAM memory on the CPU module. The other port which is known as the user port, and has a 10-pin screw terminal, is provided for communication with other devices that have serial interfaces such as touch-screens, hand-held controllers or other devices. Capacity of RAM on the module is 256 kilobytes.

The RAM on the CPU module is divided into four groups which are data, expanded data, ladder memory and executive memory. The data part of RAM is used for storing user variables, bit memory and executive data. The expanded data part of RAM is optional. The ladder memory part of RAM is used to store the application program. The executive memory part of RAM is used to store the executive code for the system. Capacity of application memory on the module is 256 kilobytes. Capacity of user memory on the module is 32 kilobytes. The 502-03638-61 CPU module performs many tasks. These include execution of diagnostic checks, checking the battery in the CSM and other routine maintenance tasks. The module also executes the application program. The 502-03638-61 module executes diagnostic tests on each module in the rack whenever power is switched on.
