The 502-03552-22 is a feedback processing module engineered by Kollmorgen for the PIC900 Drives series. Within a drive rack, it accepts resolver, potentiometer, and discrete input signals and conditions them for the PIC900 control processor. This module forms the measurement link that lets the drive calculate position, speed, and direction in real time, enabling coordinated motion in pick-and-place robots, packaging lines, and similar automated equipment. It plugs into the standard backplane connector and draws low-level power directly from the host chassis, avoiding the need for separate wiring.
Two differential input paths permit simultaneous monitoring of up to 2 channels, and each path is optimized for the module’s nominal logic level of 24 VDC. Fast-switching devices keep the digital interface responsive; the worst-case propagation from logic low to high or high to low is limited to 50 µs, so following error remains minimal at high traverse rates. Overvoltage clamps protect the circuitry by tolerating excursions up to 30 VDC without component damage. Conditioned resolver excitation is delivered back to the sensor at 16 Vp-p to maintain an adequate signal-to-noise ratio across the installation. The 2.7 kΩ input impedance prevents the module from loading external signal sources, while the output stage supplies up to 10 mA RMS for passive transducers.
The analog front end uses a reference carrier of 2 kHz, allowing the resolver to report shaft angle accurately up to the module’s maximum electrical velocity of 15,000 rpm. Position data is accumulated by a 24-bit up/down counter, giving more than 16 million discrete positions per mechanical revolution when combined with the resolver’s 4000 functional units per electrical turn and the selectable ratio range from 0.5:1 to 1:1. Cable runs between the module and the feedback device can extend to 200 ft without exceeding attenuation limits, and temperature-related tracking error remains within ±20 arc-minutes under constant conditions or ±45 arc-minutes during thermal transients.
