The PRD-PE205SOH-10 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen for the PD Servostar Servo Drives series. The unit converts regulated 24 V DC bus energy into pulse-width-modulated three-phase power that drives permanent-magnet servomotors. By closing its current and velocity loops internally, the drive bridges a motion controller and the motor, delivering the precise torque, speed, and position control demanded by pick-and-place arms, miniature conveyors, and indexing tables in automated lines. Protective trips, fast capacitor charging, and a high carrier frequency support continuous duty where short cycle times and minimal downtime are expected.
During continuous operation, the amplifier supplies 5 A rms of phase current. When rapid acceleration or deceleration is required, it can supply up to 10 A rms for 500 ms before reverting to the nominal level. The inverter section switches at 16 kHz, so the resulting motor current exhibits low acoustic noise and minimal torque ripple. Logic and gate-drive circuitry draw 0.144 kVA from the 24 V auxiliary supply, and branch short-circuit protection is implemented with a 15 A time-delay line fuse. A form factor not exceeding 1.01, together with a 32 kHz current ripple frequency, helps maintain clean DC bus conditions for multiple axes.
Internal capacitors reach their operating voltage in 0.25 seconds, enabling quick restarts after an emergency stop. Temperature sensors open the main switches at 80 °C to safeguard the semiconductor modules, while an undervoltage monitor disconnects the drive when the input falls to 16 V DC so that the control logic does not operate unpredictably. Overvoltage events are limited at 56 V DC, and transient demands are handled with a 30 A surge rating and a 12.5 A peak input window lasting 500 ms. A logic enable current of 0.6 A supports direct connection to standard power supplies. Despite these features, the housing weighs only 0.55 kg, allowing multiple drives to be mounted side by side without exceeding panel rail limits.
