The PRD-PB805E0D-00 is a compact DC-bus servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the PD Servostar Servo Drives series. In automated machinery, this module regulates torque and speed for low-voltage permanent-magnet motors while exchanging status and command data with a motion controller over the drive’s serial interface. Its housing mounts inside distributed control panels, and the unit initiates motor operation through an internal soft-start circuit. This design allows integration in pick-and-place heads, light conveyors, and indexing tables that share a common 24–90 VDC supply.
The drive can supply a continuous motor phase current of 5 A RMS, providing steady torque under normal thermal conditions, while transient demands are handled by a peak capability of 10 A RMS for 500 ms. When supplied by an 80 V DC link, it draws 6 A and receives an input power of 0.48 kVA. Internal switching delivers 0.433 kVA to the motor terminals after pulse-width modulation processing. A 16 kHz carrier limits audible noise, and ripple is attenuated by a 32 kHz current-reconstruction loop. The charging circuit reaches full bus voltage in 0.25 seconds, after which the form factor remains at or below 1.01 to keep RMS heating low during repetitive duty cycles.
Protection functions activate before component limits are reached. A soft-start surge ceiling of 30 A prevents inrush current from tripping upstream fuses, and an internal sensor disables the gate drive if the heat sink temperature reaches 80 °C. Bus energy is also monitored, and operation stops above 100 VDC or below 40 VDC to protect against insulation stress and undervoltage recovery oscillations. Additional safeguards include a 1 A fault relay for external alarms and a 0.6 A logic sink that powers optically isolated inputs. The unit has a total mass of 0.55 kg, allowing secure installation without adding substantial weight to compact distributed control panels.
