Product Description:
The PRD-P310250z-55 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen within the PD Servostar Servo Drives series. It converts DC bus power into pulse-width-modulated output for brushless or brushed servo motors, allowing precise torque, speed, and position control in automated machinery. By combining current regulation, feedback processing, and fault protection in one 3.54-inch-wide housing, the unit simplifies panel layouts in material-handling lines, pick-and-place stations, and packaging equipment.
During operation, the drive delivers a continuous phase current of 10 A, while transient loads can be handled with a peak output of 20 A for rapid acceleration. Current is generated by a dual-IGBT bridge that switches at 16 kHz, and the resulting ripple appears at a secondary component of 32 kHz. These high frequencies support low audible noise and smooth torque production. Power lost in the switching stage produces 120 W of internal dissipation that must be removed by panel airflow. The analog command circuitry is powered by a ±15 VDC rail that draws 330 mA, and the motor feedback loops are scaled at 3.53 A/V so the control card can match resolver or encoder signals. An 8 VDC logic rail powers the microprocessor and gate-drive circuitry.
The DC bus disconnects if the voltage rises to 430 VDC or falls below 90 VDC, protecting the drive from operation outside its permitted voltage range. Thermal shutdown occurs at 118 °C, as measured on the heat sink, to protect the power electronics from excessive temperature. Command torque sensitivity is set to 2.83 A/V, allowing predictable analog loop tuning across identical drives. The chassis has a height of 10.39 inches (264 mm) and a depth of 7.95 inches (202 mm), allowing multiple units to be mounted side by side without exceeding standard cabinet depth. Adequate ambient airflow must keep the heat sink below the shutdown temperature during continuous operation.
