The PRD-MZ210S0z-10 is a servo drive engineered by Kollmorgen for the PD Servostar Servo Drives series. It accepts a low-voltage DC supply and generates three-phase, sinusoidally modulated current to regulate brushless servomotors used in pick-and-place systems, conveyors, and precision tooling. By performing real-time torque, speed, and position control, the unit forms the active interface between machine controllers and mechanical axes in industrial automation.
This drive can supply a continuous armature current of 10 A RMS, which keeps the motor within its thermal limits during steady operation. For rapid indexing, it furnishes up to 20 A RMS in peak mode, providing twice the nominal torque for 500 ms. The IGBT bridge switches at 16 kHz, and internal filters limit current ripple to 32 kHz while reducing acoustic emissions. Protection circuits disable the power stage when the DC bus rises above 56 VDC or falls below the 16 VDC undervoltage threshold. An internal sensor initiates shutdown at 80 °C to prevent thermal damage. Auxiliary services draw 0.6 A of logic current, while the 24 V control rail supplies 12 A to the power electronics. A fault relay rated for 1 A provides isolated status feedback to the connected control system.
Energy demand under nominal load is 0.288 kVA from the 24 V source, while the converter can momentarily draw 25 A during aggressive acceleration profiles. A soft-start circuit restricts the initial inrush to 30 A and completes capacitor precharging within 0.25 s. The upstream line fuse must be rated for 30 A to protect the supply circuit. After the capacitors are charged, the DC link can supply 0.26 kVA to the motor phase outputs. The controlled startup sequence reduces stress on the supply wiring and prevents the uncharged capacitors from drawing an unrestricted surge. The available output power supports short acceleration events while maintaining controlled energy delivery to the connected servomotor.
