The PRD-KL54SN0z-10 is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen as part of the PD Servostar Servo Drives series. Designed to regulate three-phase brushless motors, it closes the current, velocity, and position loops required for precise motion control. By converting low-level command signals into modulated power, the unit positions axes in automated assembly, packaging, and materials-handling machines with repeatable accuracy. It supports both analog and digital reference formats, enabling quick integration with PLC or PC-based controllers across a range of applications.
An analog command span of ±10 V is accepted through a 14-bit converter, providing 16,384 discrete counts for fine torque or speed scaling. The current regulator operates at 16 kHz, while ripple is minimized by a switching pattern that raises the power-stage ripple frequency to 32 kHz. These rates help keep motor torque linear even at low speeds. A form factor of ≤1.01 indicates that the root-mean-square output current deviates by less than one percent from its average value, limiting thermal stress on the windings. The logic section draws 0.6 A, helping cabinets meet low-power control supply requirements without auxiliary converters.
During startup, a soft-start circuit limits inrush current to 30 A and charges the link capacitors in 0.25 s. Continuous operation is protected by an overtemperature threshold of 80 °C. If this threshold is exceeded, the drive opens its fault contacts within 2 ms and recloses them after 3 ms to signal the controller. Those contacts are rated for 1 A and can be wired directly to safety relays. The servo algorithms use a velocity loop sampled at 4 kHz and a position loop sampled at 2 kHz, providing tight following-error control. The housing measures 140 × 108 × 51 mm, allowing multiple units to mount side by side on a 35 mm DIN rail without requiring excessive panel depth.
