The PRD-CE10560z-A2 is a digital servo amplifier produced by Kollmorgen within the PD Servostar Servo Drives series. In factory automation, it supplies controlled three-phase power to a matched servo motor, using encoder feedback and analog command signals to regulate position, velocity, and torque. The drive links motion axes to higher-level controllers, allowing tight synchronization of conveyors, gantries, or packaging heads while isolating the host PLC from high-current switching hardware.
The unit connects to a three-phase supply at 230 VAC and is protected upstream by a 15 A fuse. Its continuous output capability is 10 Arms, while short bursts lasting 500 ms reach 20 Arms for rapid acceleration. The current loop closes every 62.5 µs, and pulse-width modulation switches at 8 kHz; these operating rates support smooth torque control and help damp mechanical resonances. The power stage dissipates up to 132 W of heat, which must be removed through panel ventilation or forced airflow. A 24 VDC external logic supply keeps the control electronics active during mains isolation. The maximum commutation frequency is 400 Hz, allowing encoder-based motor control to maintain accurate electrical angle tracking at high speed.
The position loop is refreshed every 500 µs, supporting responsive indexing when a compatible encoder is connected. Protective thresholds are integrated into the drive; the DC bus trips above 430 VDC or below 90 VDC, and an internal sensor disables the output when the heat sink temperature reaches 80 °C. These limits protect the transistor modules and connected machinery from mains surges, brownouts, and prolonged overloads. Additional safeguards include an overtemperature flag connected to the motion controller and a fault channel that reports undervoltage or encoder loss in real time. The drive disengages pulse-width modulation when a monitored condition exceeds its permitted range, preventing uncontrolled output current.
