The PRD-B040EAIz-62 is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the PD Servostar Servo Drives series. It regulates the current and voltage supplied to a matched motor, allowing closed-loop motion tasks to be executed in industrial automation cells, packaging lines, and machine tools. By processing analog velocity or torque commands from a controller, the unit modulates its power stage to achieve a precise shaft response while monitoring feedback from an attached encoder.
The power section can deliver a peak current of 18 A RMS for 500 ms, allowing short acceleration bursts without saturation, while its continuous output is limited to 6 A RMS for steady operation. With a 230 V supply, single-phase mains can provide up to 1.8 kVA, while a three-phase connection increases the allowable input to 2.8 kVA and provides more capacity for dynamic loads. The drive dissipates 80 W of heat internally, which must be considered when arranging enclosure cooling. The logic section uses a 24 V DC supply and draws 1.5 A of control current. A fault relay rated for 1 A at 24 V DC provides an isolated alarm output. Overtemperature shutdown occurs at 80 °C, while the upper and lower protective DC-bus thresholds are 430 V DC and 90 V DC, respectively. Current is switched at a pulse-width modulation frequency of 8 kHz to balance acoustic noise and control-loop bandwidth.
System wiring is protected by a 15 A mains fuse, and the logic electronics share the machine’s common 24 V DC supply. Encoder feedback keeps commutation synchronized with rotor position during operation. The analog control interface supports integration with legacy trim-pot or PID control boards. The chassis weighs 2.22 kg, which reduces the load on panel structures and slide-out mounting racks while making the unit easier to position within compact enclosures.
