Product Description:

The PRD-B040ASIA-32 is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the PD Servostar Servo Drives series. It converts the fixed DC link of a machine cabinet into modulated phase currents that regulate a connected permanent-magnet motor. The drive implements closed-loop torque, velocity, or position control for industrial automation axes such as pick-and-place heads, conveyors, and packaging actuators.

The power stage delivers a continuous output of 3 A and can supply a short-term peak of 9 A for acceleration events. A regulated link voltage of 325 VDC feeds this stage, allowing the inverter to reach a rated mechanical output of 1.1 kW. Pulse modulation is executed at 16 kHz, keeping current ripple low while minimizing acoustic noise. When the motor decelerates, up to 200 W of energy is returned to the shared DC bus; if the bus voltage rises, the internal chopper engages an external resistor of at least 20 Ω. Switching and conduction losses generate 37 W of internal heat that must be removed by panel airflow. The fault relay can switch 1 A at 24 VDC to signal an external safety circuit, and the digital outputs can source 60 mA for field devices.

Commands and diagnostic data are exchanged through the SERCOS fiber-optic interface, while resolver feedback closes the current and velocity loops for precise shaft tracking. Two differential analog inputs are available with a resolution of 14 bits and a sensitivity of 1.53 mV, supporting torque or speed commands from legacy controllers. Drive logic is powered by a dedicated 24 VDC supply that remains active during bus discharge, preserving fault history. Each digital output shares this power rail. The unit has a mass of 1.61 kg, permitting direct mounting on a DIN rail without additional support brackets.
