The PRD-AMPE25EZ-02 is a servo drive released by Kollmorgen within the PD Servostar Servo Drives series. It supplies controlled three-phase power to matched servo motors so that automated axes can accelerate, decelerate, and hold position with closed-loop precision. Designed for machinery that uses compact panel components, the unit measures only 140 × 108 × 51 mm and operates from a low-voltage control supply. Its compact dimensions allow it to fit into space-constrained control cabinets while retaining the power electronics needed for precise motion control.
The analog command port accepts a bipolar reference of ±10 VDC, allowing direct connection to PLC or motion card outputs. The drive operates from 24 VDC, which supplies a switching bridge clocked at 16 kHz; this carrier frequency helps reduce audible switching noise. Continuous drive capability is rated at 5 Arms per phase, with a corresponding RMS output voltage of 15 VAC for energizing low-inductance motor windings. Short bursts of acceleration can draw up to 10 Arms, while the upstream 15 A line fuse protects cabinet wiring without preventing these dynamic peaks. The input draws 6 A and 144 VA under nominal load, which helps limit heat generation in fanless enclosure designs.
An internal thermal sensor disconnects the bridge at 80 °C to prevent insulation damage, while a DC-link monitor trips at 56 VDC to protect components from regenerative overvoltage. If the supply falls to the 16 VDC undervoltage threshold, the drive disables gate switching rather than continuing to operate during a brownout. The capacitors charge in 0.25 seconds, allowing the drive to restart quickly after an emergency-stop reset. During severe transients, a 30 A surge-current absorber clamps input spikes and protects the input stage. Output capability reaches 130 VA, making the drive suitable for small-frame servo motors used on indexing tables, labeling heads, and similar light mechanical loads.
