The PE205560 is a compact DC-bus servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen for the PD Servostar Servo Drives series. It converts low-voltage supply energy into three-phase current that governs a brushless servo motor, using real-time encoder feedback to maintain the commanded position, speed, or torque. The unit occupies minimal panel space and is intended for conveyors, pick-and-place gantries, and light packaging axes where accurate motion control and quick overload response are required.
The drive’s control stage accepts a command signal through a ±10 VDC analog interface; this voltage is digitized and scaled to generate phase currents. With a continuous rating of 5 A RMS per phase, the amplifier can support a motor output of 120 W while operating from its internal 24 VDC bus. For rapid acceleration, the current rises to 10 A RMS per phase for 0.5 seconds, providing short bursts of double torque without causing a thermal overload. Three opto-isolated 24 V inputs allow limit switches or drive-enable lines to control motion, while a form-C fault relay carries 1 A for status signaling. A 15 A fuse protects the power section, and the logic electronics draw only 0.6 A. Total input demand remains near 128 W during full-load operation.
A current ADC resolution of 14 bits lets the servo loop detect small velocity changes without dithering. Thermal and voltage supervision are built in, and the output stage disables when the heat sink reaches 80 °C. Overvoltage protection activates when the bus rises above 56 VDC, while undervoltage protection activates if it falls below 16 VDC. These protective thresholds help prevent operation outside the power stage’s permitted voltage and temperature ranges. The aluminum housing measures 140 × 108 × 51 mm, allowing several drives to share a shallow control rack while leaving clearance for encoder connectors. Its compact dimensions also simplify installation where cabinet depth and mounting space are limited.
