The CR03561 is a servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the PD Servostar Servo Drives series. Designed for closed-loop motion systems, the unit converts power from a DC bus into modulated three-phase outputs that control synchronous or induction motors with high accuracy. In factory automation cells, it positions axes used in packaging, electronics assembly, and material-handling equipment. The drive interfaces with digital controllers over plant networks and supplies regulated current while monitoring internal temperature and bus voltage to maintain safe, repeatable performance.
It can deliver a continuous phase current of 3 A rms, giving small- and medium-frame motors the steady torque needed for indexing duties. Transient load spikes are accommodated by a 9 A rms burst capability that lasts up to 500 ms. The current regulator updates every 62.5 µs, so commanded torque follows control words with minimal latency. Motor voltage is synthesized at a carrier frequency of 16 kHz; this switching rate limits audible noise and reduces ripple in the stator windings. Real-time command and diagnostic data are exchanged through the SERCOS fiber-optic interface, allowing deterministic cycle times and straightforward daisy-chaining of multiple drives. Resolver feedback is accepted directly, and the interface excites the resolver at 4.25 VAC while reading a transformation ratio of 0.47 without external signal conditioning. A separate 24 VDC logic rail powers the microprocessor, so field power can be disconnected without interrupting communication.
Thermal and electrical safeguards prevent damage during demanding duty cycles. An internal sensor trips the drive at 80 °C, while bus voltage supervision shuts it down if the voltage rises above 430 VDC or falls below 90 VDC; these limits protect semiconductors from overstress caused by regenerative events or brownouts. During normal operation, the power stage dissipates up to 60 W of heat through the aluminum housing, and cabinet airflow is required to keep the drive below its trip temperature. The unit has a mass of 1.61 kg and can be mounted on a DIN rail or panel. Its resolver return channel provides 2 VAC to maintain signal integrity over long cable runs.
