The CP320260 servo amplifier is manufactured by Kollmorgen within the PD Servostar Servo Drives series. Acting as the intermediary between a motion controller and a brushless motor, it converts incoming AC power into regulated, pulse-width-modulated currents that position machine axes with precision. The product is intended for industrial automation tasks that require tight velocity and torque regulation, such as indexing tables, form-fill-seal equipment, and electronic gearing assemblies.
On the power side, the unit accepts a three-phase supply of 190–230 VAC and rectifies it into a DC bus that operates between 270–320 VDC under normal load. From this bus, the amplifier can deliver a continuous phase current of 20 A RMS per phase, and it can supply 40 A RMS per phase for up to two seconds during demanding transients. The motor can receive up to 7.3 kW of mechanical output power at these ratings. Command signals enter through an analog port scaled at 5.66 A per volt, while motor feedback is processed at 7.07 A per volt for closed-loop control. The current control loop operates at 16 kHz, helping to limit audible noise and torque ripple.
The control electronics are energized by a dedicated external 24 VDC supply, allowing fieldbus and memory functions to remain active when the main power is isolated. Pulse-width modulation occurs at 8 kHz, balancing dynamic response with switching losses. These losses account for 240 W of internal heat dissipation that must be removed through panel airflow. Protective circuits shut down the drive if the bus voltage reaches 430 VDC or if the DC bus remains below 255 VDC during startup, protecting the semiconductors from abnormal power conditions. The enclosure measures 118.6 mm in width, 264 mm in height, and no more than 202 mm in depth, allowing sufficient cabinet space and airflow clearance to be allocated in multi-axis installations.
