Product Description:

The NSM5637 is a brushless servo motor produced by Kollmorgen for the NSM Brushless Servo Motors series. Designed for closed-loop positioning and velocity tasks, the unit converts drive current into precise shaft motion for gantries, indexing tables, and packaging axes. Its permanent-magnet rotor, wound stator, and efficient thermal path help provide consistent torque while maintaining a compact overall length. Within an automation cell, the motor pairs with a digital drive to deliver high repeatability and a quick response during each motion profile.

During continuous operation, the motor provides a torque rating of 5.2 Nm, indicating the load it can sustain without overheating. For short bursts such as acceleration, the motor provides a peak torque of 13.0 Nm, giving it 2.5 times the continuous torque capacity for transient loads. Current regulation is influenced by the winding parameters. A phase inductance of 5.2 mH slows the rate of current change and smooths the drive output, while a phase resistance of 1.0 Ω contributes to copper losses that must be managed through adequate cooling. The torque constant is 0.50 Nm/A, so every ampere supplied by the drive produces half a newton-meter of torque at the shaft.

Dynamic behavior is also shaped by the rotor inertia of 0.00113 kg·m², which supports rapid speed changes while helping the controller maintain stable motion. Back electromotive force increases according to a voltage constant of 60 V/krpm, which assists with the selection of a suitable bus voltage and regenerative braking components. The radial bearings tolerate a side load of 89 kg at 500 rpm, allowing belt pulleys or pinions to be supported directly on the shaft. The motor weighs 11.0 kg. When the motor is mounted to a grounded steel panel, an external heat sink measuring 0.50 × 12 × 12 inches helps keep the winding temperature within the allowable limit at an ambient temperature of 40 °C.
