NSM4214 is a Kollmorgen NSM series servo motor. It is designed for use with controllers that supply AC power. The motor’s input voltage rating is 230 Volts. In addition to supplying power, the controller manages motor speed and shaft position. A sensor, known as an encoder, is installed on the motor. The function of the encoder is to take real-time motor parameter measurements, and transmit these to the motor controller. Control algorithms on the controller factor in these real-time motor parameter measurements when calculating the controller output. The controller varies the frequency and amplitude of its AC output to manage motor parameters. A standard encoder is installed on the NSM4214 motor. Its rotor inertia is 0.00024 kg m2. The continuous and peak torque output ratings are 1.8 Nm and 5.7 Nm.

Resistance and inductance of the motors windings are 2.8 Ohms and 11 millihenry. The torque constant of the motor is 0.41 Nm/A and the voltage constant is 49 Volts/KRPM. Mechanical specifications of the NSM4214 motor include 4.7 kilograms weight and 174 millimeters length. The motor has an 89 millimeter flange with mounting holes for motor attachment.
