M.1015.6959 is a Kollmorgen NSM motor with 5000 RPM maximum speed. A 5000-line encoder is installed on the servo motor. NSM motors are brushless, which enhances safety and reliability. Carbon brushes were used for commutation in traditional motors. The brushes suffered from wear and tear, and caused sparking. As a result, brushed motors were not suitable for use in explosive atmospheres, and required periodic replacement. Modern motors, such as the M.1015.6959, use electronic circuits for commutation, reducing maintenance requirements and improving performance. Typical NSM motor applications include semiconductor manufacturing, material handling, robotics, and web processing. NSM motors have a rugged construction which allows use in adverse conditions. A high torque to size ratio enables use for a wide range for applications. Multiple NEMA mounting frames are available to accommodate varying application requirements.
