Product Description:
The MSM215-505-304-M-0KA is a brushless servo motor manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the MSM Brushless Servo Motors series. Designed for closed-loop positioning and speed control, it delivers the rapid acceleration and repeatable motion needed by automated pick-and-place gantries, indexing tables, and packaging axes. Multi-turn, high-resolution feedback supplies the absolute rotor position across multiple revolutions, allowing the control system to recover position information quickly after a power cycle. This feedback also supports accurate commutation and coordinated motion without requiring a complete homing sequence after every startup.
The motor provides a continuous torque output of 57 Nm, allowing it to hold or drive loads for extended periods without overheating. For short bursts, such as rapid indexing, it can generate a peak torque of 160 Nm. From rest, a stall current of 45.5 A(pk) produces the corresponding electromagnetic force, while a torque constant of 1.39 Nm/A relates drive current directly to shaft torque for precise current-mode control. The winding has a phase-to-phase inductance of 6.5 mH, which helps smooth current ripple while maintaining a quick response to command changes. Its electrical characteristics allow the connected servo drive to regulate torque accurately during acceleration, steady motion, and controlled deceleration.
The motor supports a radial load of 101 kg at the front bearing when the shaft operates at the rated speed of 3000 rpm, allowing belt drives and pinions to be mounted without external supports. Compatibility with 480-volt plant power systems is provided by a rated voltage of 460 V, and the phase-to-phase resistance of 0.24 ohm helps limit copper losses during continuous operation. A back EMF value of 168 V/KRPM gives the drive predictable voltage margins during regenerative operation, while the maximum current of 147.1 A(pk) supports inverter selection for acceleration peaks. Six magnetic poles produce smooth torque throughout each revolution. The ST-60 steel shaft has an M12 × 1.75 mm thread cut to a depth of 28 mm, providing a secure mechanical interface for pulleys, gears, or thrust collars.
