Product Description:
The MSM165-93-204-S-2KA is a brushless servo motor produced by Kollmorgen within the MSM Brushless Servo Motors series. The unit couples with Kollmorgen drives to position or regulate loads along packaging, material-handling, and machining axes where repeatable speed and torque are required. A factory-installed 24 VDC spring-applied brake holds the shaft when power is removed, while single-turn high-resolution feedback returns the absolute rotor position to the controller for closed-loop motion.
The motor develops a continuous shaft torque of 10.5 Nm while operating from a 460 V winding, and forced-air cabinet cooling helps it sustain this output. At a rated speed of 2000 rpm, the mechanical power produced is well matched to mid-frame gear reducers. Dynamic events are accommodated by a peak torque of 34 Nm; to reach that level, the drive may command a peak current of up to 24.0 A for short intervals. Stall conditions draw a peak current of 6.2 A and are limited by internal temperature sensors. The shaft end has an M8 × 1.25 thread with a depth of 19 mm, simplifying the attachment of couplings or timing-belt pulleys. Electrical behavior is governed by a voltage constant of 225 V/krpm, so back electromotive force rises linearly with speed and must be considered when selecting the drive.
A torque constant of 1.86 Nm/A links phase current to output torque, allowing quick estimation of load requirements. The integrated brake and rotor contribute to an inertia of 0.003 kg·m², providing moderate acceleration without overshoot in indexing tasks. The winding has an inductance of 60.0 mH, which helps limit ripple current, while its resistance of 5.7 Ω affects internal copper losses. The overall mass, including the holding brake, is 13.9 kg, so the motor can be mounted on moving carriages without excessive structural reinforcement.
