The MSM165-93-204-M-0KA is a brushless servo motor manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the MSM Brushless Servo Motors series. It is intended for precision motion tasks in industrial automation, where a drive amplifier commands the rotor to follow position or velocity profiles while the motor supplies mechanical power to linear stages, rotary indexers, and other equipment. Multi-turn, high-resolution feedback provides absolute position data so the controller can regulate the shaft at its rated speed of 2000 rpm. Absolute feedback also allows the control system to determine the rotor position immediately after startup without first completing a homing cycle.
During continuous operation, the motor delivers 10.5 Nm of torque without thermal derating. The three-phase winding is designed for a DC bus of 460 V, matching common factory power systems and reducing the cable current required for power transmission. A permanent-magnet rotor with 6 poles establishes the electrical commutation angle and supports smooth motion at low speeds. The electromagnetic geometry produces a torque constant of 1.86 Nm/A, so nearly two newton-meters of torque are generated for every ampere of sinusoidal phase current. This relationship allows the drive amplifier to regulate torque by adjusting current in response to changing motion commands and mechanical loads.
High-demand moves are supported by a peak torque capability of 34 Nm, which the drive can access when rapid acceleration is required. Achieving that output requires phase currents up to 24.0 A(pk), while static stall conditions draw 6.2 A(pk). The rotor has a mass moment of inertia of 0.0022 kg·m², providing moderate acceleration without excessive overshoot in lightly loaded systems. A phase inductance of 60.0 mH limits current ripple and works with the 5.7 Ω winding resistance to smooth pulse-width-modulated drive signals. Mechanical coupling is handled by an M8 × 1.25 mm threaded shaft end cut to a depth of 19 mm. The motor is supplied without a brake, which reduces its overall length. Its voltage constant is 225 V/krpm, indicating the back electromotive force that the controller must counter during dynamic operation.
