Product Description:
The MSM115-89-402-M-2KA is a brushless servo motor produced by Kollmorgen within the MSM Brushless Servo Motors series. As part of an axis drive, the unit converts electrical power from a matched amplifier into precise rotary motion for positioning, indexing, and speed-regulated processes used in packaging lines, material-handling stations, and other industrial automation tasks. Its compact 115 frame size supports integration with compatible Kollmorgen drives and feedback hardware while conserving space inside automated machinery.
The motor produces a continuous shaft torque of 10 Nm, while short bursts can reach 32 Nm without exceeding thermal limits. Its rotor inertia is 0.00193 kg-m² with the integral brake, providing a consistent basis for drive tuning and acceleration planning. The magnetic design uses a six-pole arrangement that supports smooth electronic commutation at high rotational speeds. At 4000 rpm, the bearing set can withstand a radial force of up to 48 kg. No axial force is permitted, which prevents thrust loading on the bearings. These operating limits help protect the bearing set when the motor drives positioning equipment, indexing mechanisms, or precision gearheads under repetitive loads.
The complete assembly weighs 12.1 kg with the holding brake installed. Under worst-case duty cycles, the motor can reach a surface temperature of 125 °C, so surrounding components and wiring must be suitable for the expected heat exposure. The distance from the mounting face to the rear of the assembly is 317 mm, providing the required reference for enclosure clearance and machine layout. Its keyed shaft has a 3.5 mm-deep keyway supported by an ST-60 steel journal for positive torque transfer to a coupling or gearbox. A metric M6 × 1.0 mm tapped hole extends 16 mm into the shaft end to accept a drawbar coupling. The feedback connector has 17 pins for carrying resolver or encoder signals between the motor and its connected drive.
