Product Description:
The MSM115-89-402-E2-2KA is a brushless servo motor from Kollmorgen within the MSM Brushless Servo Motors series. As a permanent-magnet synchronous unit, it converts drive current into controlled rotational motion for indexing tables, pick-and-place heads, and other precision axes in automated machinery. The motor works with a servo amplifier and encoder feedback so the control system can regulate torque, velocity, and position with high repeatability in industrial production lines.
During continuous operation, the motor delivers 89 in-lb of torque, giving machinery sufficient stall margin without overheating. Its rated mechanical speed is 4000 rpm, which suits moderate-inertia loads and typical drive bandwidths. The bearings support a radial side load equivalent to 48 kg at 4000 rpm, allowing belt pulleys or pinions to be mounted without excessive shaft deflection. A fail-safe brake operates at 24 VDC, holding the axis when power is removed and helping prevent unintended movement after an emergency stop. The output shaft has an M6 × 1.0 mm thread and extends 16 mm beyond the face. A machined keyway transfers torque directly to the coupling and prevents slippage during rapid reversals.
Position and velocity feedback are provided by an incremental encoder with 2000 counts per revolution. The encoder electronics receive +5 VDC through the motor connector, while the shielded cable also carries the commutation signals to help protect feedback transmission from electrical noise. The feedback header has 17 pins arranged according to Kollmorgen’s standard pinout, supporting a direct connection to a compatible feedback cable. Safe thermal operation requires the case surface to remain below 125 °C, protecting the winding insulation and bearing lubricants during demanding duty cycles. The threaded shaft extension and pre-cut keyway provide secure attachment points for compatible drive components without requiring an additional shaft adapter.
