Product Description:
The MSM115-34-404-S-0KA is a brushless servo motor manufactured by Kollmorgen for the MSM Brushless Servo Motors series. Designed for closed-loop motion control, it converts electrical energy from a matched drive into precise rotary movement for light industrial axes such as pick-and-place heads, feeders, and compact conveyors. An integrated single-turn, high-resolution feedback device supplies the shaft position data needed for accurate commutation and motion control. This feedback allows the connected drive to monitor angular position within one mechanical revolution and correct deviations during operation.
At its rated operating point, the motor supplies a continuous torque of 3.8 Nm while turning at 4000 rpm. This output can be sustained without exceeding the permitted thermal limits when the drive is supplied from a 460 V DC link. For short-duration overloads, the electromagnetic circuit can reach a peak torque of 12 Nm and momentarily draw 15.6 A peak. The back-EMF sensitivity is 115 V/kRPM, so the controller must increase the applied voltage in proportion to speed to maintain motor performance. The six internal poles establish the relationship between mechanical speed and electrical frequency, while each phase has 8.4 Ω of resistance. Stall current is limited to 4.5 A peak to control thermal loading and protect the permanent magnets.
The motor has a torque constant of 0.95 Nm/A, supporting accurate feedforward torque calculations in the servo loop. Its phase inductance of 32.0 mH filters high-frequency switching and controls the rate at which current rises through the windings. A rotor inertia of 0.00057 kg-m² supports rapid acceleration and responsive speed changes when the motor drives a suitably matched load. The assembly weighs 6.6 kg, which helps limit the structural load placed on compact gantries and mounting plates. Mechanical coupling is supported by an M6 × 1.0 mm threaded center hole machined to a depth of 16 mm. This threaded interface provides a secure attachment point for compatible couplings or related shaft-mounted components.
