The MSM100-14-604-S-2KA is a brushless servo motor manufactured by Kollmorgen within the MSM Brushless Servo Motors series. Designed as a compact rotary actuator for positioning tasks in industrial automation, the unit converts drive current into controlled mechanical torque for packaging lines, indexing tables, and automated assembly stations. It uses a six-pole rotor and a single-turn, high-resolution feedback element to supply precise position data to the drive. This feedback supports closed-loop control by allowing the connected servo drive to monitor the rotor angle and correct motion as operating conditions change.
At its rated speed of 6000 rpm, the motor delivers a continuous torque of 1.53 Nm while operating from a three-phase supply of 460 V. This steady output corresponds to a torque constant of 0.52 Nm/A, so every ampere of phase current produces roughly half a newton-meter of torque at the shaft. The stator windings have an inductance of 22.0 mH and a resistance of 9.0 Ω; these parameters establish the electrical time constant that the servo drive must accommodate. A voltage constant of 62 V per 1000 rpm allows accurate back electromotive force estimation during field-oriented control, while the peak stall current is 3.4 A when the rotor is locked. During acceleration, the motor can supply 8 Nm of peak torque while accepting up to 17.7 A peak for short intervals without exceeding its temperature limits. A 24 VDC holding brake engages to secure the load whenever power is removed, and its operating voltage is compatible with common machine control power supplies. The moving assembly has an inertia of 0.00032 kg·m², enabling quick direction changes with minimal overshoot.
