The MCSS23-6432-002 is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the MC Servostar Servo Drives series. Designed for panel-mounted installation, this controller supplies regulated current and velocity loops to Kollmorgen synchronous motors used on pick-and-place stations, packaging lines, and general motion axes. By combining power conversion, control logic, and network interfaces, the unit enables closed-loop positioning while minimizing the panel space normally required for drive systems assembled from multiple components.
Its primary communication interface is SERCOS, allowing deterministic fiber-optic data exchanges with master motion controllers at cycle times suited to submillisecond interpolation. The standalone configuration houses the regulation electronics and power stages in one package without relying on an external rack. Machine I/O is handled locally through 23 isolated inputs and 20 isolated outputs. These optically isolated channels allow PLC signals to trigger homing, fault resets, and sequence interlocks without additional relays. For higher-level plant networking, the controller provides two SST-compatible fieldbus interfaces, allowing non-SERCOS devices to exchange status words and parameter data without protocol converters.
