The MCSS-32-6432-002 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen and belongs to the MC Servostar Servo Drives series. As part of the MC ServoStar MC product family, the unit supplies closed-loop current and velocity control to synchronous or induction motors used in automated machinery. Its self-contained architecture allows direct cabinet mounting without supplemental racks. In industrial automation systems, the drive translates motion commands into regulated three-phase power for axes that require accurate speed and position control.
The drive communicates with higher-level motion controllers through the SERCOS fiber-optic interface, allowing deterministic command cycles and drive diagnostics to share a single ring topology. Its operating mode is standalone, which means the internal processor performs current loops locally while accepting position targets over the network. When a system relies on decentralized I/O, the embedded rack provides 2 SST-compatible fieldbus channels that can bridge discrete sensors to the SERCOS bus. Parameter data and fault history are retained in nonvolatile NVRAM, preserving the configuration after power is removed. For direct machine interfacing, the terminal block carries 23 isolated inputs that can accept signals from limit switches, probes, or interlocks without external relays.
Actuator control signals are available through 20 isolated outputs, allowing the drive to energize brakes, contactors, or stack-light segments under software control. Application modules connect through a PC-104 / PC-104+ interface, and up to two cards can be stacked to add local processing or specialized interfaces without expanding the panel footprint. Front-panel configuration uses 8 DIP switches to select the node address, baud rate, and startup behavior. Runtime status is reported by 5 LEDs that indicate power, enable status, and fault conditions. The power stages, control electronics, and heat sink occupy a single enclosure designed for installation inside the control cabinet.
