Product Description:

The MCS2000-DRV2 is a dual-axis servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen within the MC Servostar Servo Drives series. As part of the MC ServoStar MC product family, it conditions low-voltage DC power so paired servomotors receive tightly regulated current for positioning and speed control. Through its built-in motion interface, the unit links a machine’s control layer to the actuators that move pick-and-place heads, indexers, or light-duty conveyors. Its dual-axis configuration allows one unit to control two coordinated motors, reducing the amount of equipment required in a compact automation cabinet.

The drive accepts a nominal input of 24/48 VDC and tolerates line variations of ±10%. Digital motion data travels over the SERCOS fieldbus, eliminating the signal drift associated with analog commands. Ten spring-clamp terminal positions organize the power, motor, and sensor wiring. Each channel delivers up to 4.5 A per channel continuously and can surge to 6 A per channel for 30 seconds when rapid acceleration is required. Output voltage follows the DC bus voltage, helping the motors maintain torque during sudden load changes. A fault counter limits successive abnormal events to four cycles, while a 10 ms reset lockout prevents an immediate restart after a protective trip. The same protection system monitors overload, overvoltage, and residual-voltage conditions.

The drive monitors an overvoltage threshold of 48 VDC. If that threshold is exceeded, the unit trips and remains idle until the energy in the DC link has decayed. After an overload, current is reduced to 3 A per channel for at least 120 seconds to prevent excessive copper heating. Residual charge is discharged until it reaches an anti-residual level equal to 10% of the supply voltage. Continuous operation is permitted at ambient temperatures up to 40 °C. All electronics are housed in an IP20 open-frame enclosure intended for installation inside a protective cabinet. The enclosure prevents accidental contact with hazardous internal parts while allowing the airflow needed to remove heat during normal operation.
