Product Description:
The M405-C-31-B3 is a brushless servo motor produced by Kollmorgen within the M Goldline Servo Motors series. It converts electrical energy into controlled rotary motion for positioning, indexing, and velocity regulation in industrial automation. The motor is suitable for packaging equipment, machining systems, and material-handling axes that require accurate control of speed and position. Its brushless design supports responsive operation during repeated motion cycles without the wear associated with mechanical commutation.
The motor delivers a rated mechanical output of 5.4 kW at a nominal shaft speed of 5000 rpm, which is also its maximum permitted mechanical speed. At 25 °C, it can sustain a continuous stall torque of 13.9 N-m while drawing a continuous line current of 19.8 A RMS. The back electromotive force is 40.2 V RMS/krpm, which helps the drive calculate voltage requirements during acceleration. When the ambient temperature rises to 40 °C, the continuous stall torque decreases to 13.1 N-m because higher winding temperatures reduce the allowable load. Copper losses are characterized by a DC phase resistance of 0.34 ohm, while a phase-to-phase inductance of 8.4 mH supports dynamic current control. The windings can be energized from supplies up to 250 V RMS, making the motor compatible with typical rectified three-phase power buses. Because its maximum mechanical speed matches its nominal speed, the motor must remain within that operating limit during acceleration and steady-state use.
For intermittent loads, the rotor can produce a peak torque of 35.3 N-m when the drive supplies up to 55.9 A RMS. Torque sensitivity is 0.66 N-m/A RMS, providing a direct relationship between commanded current and generated torque. An integrated permanent-magnet brake supplies 8.0 N-m of holding torque for stationary loads. Its 24 VDC coil releases the brake while drawing 0.93 A, allowing a vertical axis to remain secured when motor torque is unavailable. The drive and power supply must accommodate the peak current during short acceleration or deceleration demands, while sustained operation must remain within the continuous current and thermal limits.
