The LSM165-221-454-E2-2KA is a brushless AC servo motor built by Kollmorgen within the LSM Brushless Servo Motors series. As an electromechanical actuator, it converts three-phase power into precise shaft motion for indexing tables, pick-and-place axes, and other closed-loop automation stages. A factory-mounted electromagnetic brake and an incremental encoder are integrated into the motor, simplifying installation in vertical or position-critical machinery where controlled stopping and position feedback are required.
During continuous operation, the motor delivers a steady 25 Nm of torque while maintaining a rated shaft speed of 4500 rpm. To support this output, the drive may supply up to 134.4 A(pk); under locked-rotor conditions, the current is limited to 30.3 A(pk), allowing the drive electronics to regulate the current accordingly. The magnetic circuit uses an eight-pole rotor, and the combination of a 0.33 Ω winding resistance and 3.6 mH inductance provides a short electrical time constant for high-bandwidth control. The coil set has a back-electromotive-force slope of 109 V/kRPM and is compatible with inverters that supply approximately 460 VAC.
For intermittent motion, the electromagnetic assembly can produce 100 Nm of peak torque. The motor has a 0.91 Nm/A torque constant that directly relates drive current to output torque. The mechanical load connects through an M10 × 1.5 mm threaded shaft end, and the rotor has a reflected inertia of only 0.002 kg·m², supporting rapid acceleration with light fixtures. An integral brake engages at 24 VDC and clamps the shaft whenever control power is removed. The complete assembly, including the brake, has a mass of 23.3 kg, providing thermal capacity for short duty-cycle peaks. Position data are supplied by a 2000-line incremental encoder, which provides 8000 counts per revolution after quadrature decoding and supports precise velocity control without external transducers.
