The LSM165-173-304-S-2KA is a brushless servo motor manufactured by Kollmorgen for the LSM Brushless Servo Motors series. It delivers precise rotary motion in automated machinery that uses closed-loop speed and position control. An integrated holding brake prevents unwanted shaft movement when the motor is not operating. A high-resolution Sin/Cos encoder continuously supplies position feedback to the drive controller, allowing it to regulate motion and correct deviations as operating conditions change.
Under continuous load, the motor produces 19.5 Nm of torque while maintaining a rated speed of 3000 rpm. Its 460 VAC voltage class is intended for operation with a compatible industrial servo drive rather than a direct connection to the power supply. Each ampere of phase current produces 1.29 Nm/A through the motor’s magnetic system. Copper losses are moderated by a winding resistance of 0.98 Ω. The winding inductance is 9.6 mH, which helps smooth current ripple produced by the drive inverter. An eight-pole rotor supports smooth electronic commutation, including during controlled operation at low shaft speeds. The voltage constant is 156 V/kRPM, keeping the generated back EMF within the applicable drive range as speed increases.
During rapid indexing moves, the motor can produce a peak torque of 75 Nm while drawing up to 72.1 A peak of phase current. Its stall current is rated at 16.5 A peak, and the housing has a mass of 21 kg. Dynamic response is supported by a rotor inertia of 0.00163 kg·m², balancing acceleration capability with the requirements of the connected load. The shaft end includes an M10 × 1.5 mm thread that provides a secure mechanical connection for compatible equipment. Brake actuation and release use a dedicated 24 VDC supply. When that supply is controlled correctly, the brake can hold the shaft during powered-down periods and other stationary operating conditions.
