The LSM165-173-304-E2-2KA is a brushless servo motor manufactured by Kollmorgen for the LSM Brushless Servo Motors series. Designed for industrial positioning tasks, it generates electromagnetic torque to drive conveyors, pick-and-place heads, and similar axes that require repeatable motion. A 2000-line incremental encoder mounted on the shaft supplies real-time position signals to the drive, allowing closed-loop regulation of speed and torque throughout the duty cycle.
When powered by the application’s three-phase 460 VAC supply, the stator windings establish a magnetic field that interacts with an eight-pole rotor. Under continuous operation, the motor delivers 19.5 Nm while drawing 16.5 A peak of stall current. For transient moves, it can draw up to 72.1 A peak. Torque increases in proportion to current according to a torque constant of 1.29 Nm/A, and the maximum mechanical speed is 3000 rpm. A voltage constant of 156 V/krpm helps determine whether the selected drive can provide adequate voltage and handle regenerated energy.
The motor can produce a peak torque of 75 Nm, allowing short bursts of acceleration without exceeding its thermal limits. The rotor and brake assembly has an inertia of 0.00163 kg-m², which supports responsive tuning for high-cycle indexing. The coil set has an inductance of 9.6 mH and a resistance of 0.98 Ω, supporting smooth current changes while limiting conduction losses. A 24 VDC holding brake secures the load when motor power is removed. The shaft terminates in an M10 × 1.5 mm thread for direct coupling to compatible gearboxes or pulleys.
