Product Description:
The HSM460 is a brushless servo motor produced by Kollmorgen within the HSM Brushless Servo Motors series. The model pairs with Kollmorgen drives to translate commanded current into controlled shaft motion, supplying closed-loop torque and speed for pick-and-place actuators, indexing tables, and compact conveyors. Its permanent-magnet rotor and stator assembly support precise acceleration while feedback devices monitor position. This design makes the unit suitable for repetitive industrial automation tasks that demand fast response and consistent positioning accuracy.
The motor has a rated speed of 4000 rpm, enabling high-speed positioning without overspeeding the magnetic circuit. Electromagnetic output includes a sine-wave torque constant of 0.50 Nm/A and a square-wave torque constant of 0.54 Nm/A, indicating how much steady torque develops for each ampere of phase current under the respective commutation method. Back EMF increases at 60 V/kRPM, a value used by the drive to establish commutation voltage limits. The three-phase winding has an inductance of 3.3 mH and a resistance of 0.69 Ω, resulting in electrical time constants that influence current-loop bandwidth. Passive losses include damping of 0.045 Nm/kRPM and friction torque of 0.068 Nm. The inactive length without a brake is 264 mm, allowing installation in machine frames with moderate depth.
The motor uses a NEMA 56C face, allowing it to bolt directly to compatible standardized gearboxes and pump housings. The rotor has an inertia of 0.00046 kg·m², permitting fast acceleration when paired with light loads, while the frame has a mass of 9.7 kg that contributes to thermal stability. A thermal resistance of 0.57 °C/W supports heat transfer from the windings during continuous operation. The electrical insulation withstands 1500 V AC RMS, providing dielectric protection between energized components and the motor structure. The distance between the mounting face and power connector is 235 mm, which provides room for cable routing. Packed units have a shipping weight of 10.9 kg.
