By advancing the rotor in discrete steps, it supports open-loop control while still providing the holding torque and repeatable motion expected from a NEMA frame motor. With a frame size of NEMA 34, the motor advances the shaft by 1.8 degrees per command, giving 200 full steps per revolution.
