Product Description:
Kollmorgen manufactures the FSM610 within the FSM Brushless Servo Motors series. This brushless servo motor converts electrical power into controlled torque and speed for automated axes, conveyors, and machine tools. Its purpose in industrial automation is to provide precise motion under closed-loop drive regulation while maintaining the protection required for operation around dust and water spray.
The motor delivers a continuous stall torque of 14.1 Nm, allowing it to sustain a load without overheating when the drive commands a constant position hold. When commanded to its rated top speed of 4000 rpm, the axis can rapidly index parts in short-cycle machines. A torque constant of 0.71 Nm/A links output torque directly to phase current so drive tuning can be calculated from current limits. The winding is designed for a 230 V class bus, balancing insulation stress with compact copper fill. Electrical back electromotive force is 86 V/krpm, a value the drive must counter to maintain the commanded speed. Feedback is supplied by an optical encoder that provides 2,000 quadrature pulses per revolution. Each phase presents 3.3 mH of inductance and 0.51 Ω of resistance at 25 °C, which influence current ripple and dynamic response. An internal thermal switch interrupts operation if the stator temperature rises excessively.
Short bursts can reach 31.6 Nm of peak torque, providing additional capacity for acceleration and cutting transients. Mechanical response is aided by a rotor inertia of 0.00644 kg·m², which moderates overshoot while still permitting fast reversal when paired with a modern digital drive. The housing has an IP65 rating with a shaft seal kit, protecting the motor against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets along the shaft. The assembly weighs 22.3 kg, a mass that must be considered when sizing linear slides or cantilever mounts. Thermal energy is drawn away through the stator laminations and frame during continuous operation.
