Product Description:
The FSM490 brushless servo motor is produced by Kollmorgen within the FSM Brushless Servo Motors series. As a frameless AC permanent-magnet unit, it replaces brushed designs and provides closed-loop speed and position control for automated pick-and-place heads, conveyor zones, and indexing tables. The motor couples directly to a drive amplifier so that programmed motion profiles can be reproduced consistently across production cycles.
A continuous torque output of 9.3 Nm can be sustained when rated cooling is maintained, while a peak capability of 19.2 Nm supports rapid acceleration without saturating the magnetic circuit. Current-to-torque conversion efficiency is represented by a torque constant of 0.73 Nm/A, allowing the required amplifier current to be estimated for different load points. Mechanical velocity is limited to 4000 rpm; this ceiling keeps centrifugal forces within the bearing limits and prevents excessive back electromotive force. The stator windings have an inductance of 3.4 mH, which influences current ripple and the minimum PWM switching frequency applied by the drive.
The rotor has a mass moment of inertia of 0.00327 kg·m², so command changes translate into quick speed adjustments without overdamping lighter loads. Copper loss at the nominal operating temperature relates to a phase resistance of 0.98 Ω, which drives can use to predict heating during high-duty cycles. The winding set is rated for a DC bus of 230 V, aligning the FSM platform with common single-phase rectified supplies. The motor reaches IP65 protection when the optional shaft seal kit is installed, permitting washdown cleaning. Its 22 mm shaft, 4.8 mm × 35 mm key, and 350 mm overall length accommodate standard gearbox flanges. The assembly weighs 14.1 kg, providing substantial thermal mass while remaining manageable during installation.
