By advancing the shaft in fixed increments commanded by a drive, the motor gives machine builders a straightforward way to position indexing tables, light gantries, and labeling heads without adding encoders or other feedback devices. Its open-loop operating style also suits repeatable motion tasks that benefit from simple control architecture.

Each electrical pulse shifts the rotor by 1.8 degrees, so a complete turn is divided into 200 discrete positions and in-position deviation stays within the ±1.5% step-accuracy band. A laminated rotor, SIGMAX construction, and two internal stacks emphasize torque at low speed, while the smooth, single-ended shaft mates directly with couplers. That arrangement helps the motor produce useful holding and running torque without increasing the mounting footprint.
