The PRD-MZ40ASlz-62 is a servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the CD Servostar CD Drives series. It converts a fixed DC bus into vector-controlled outputs that operate Goldline submersible motors in automated cells. Integration occurs through the SERCOS fiber-optic bus, so position and velocity references reach the drive with low jitter. Resolver feedback from the attached motor returns the absolute rotor angle, letting the drive close its internal loops and maintain commanded motion profiles in material-handling, packaging, and washdown processes.
For continuous duty, the amplifier supplies 6 Arms to the motor phases, while a short 2-second burst raises the output to 12 Arms, and a 500 ms spike can reach 18 Arms for rapid acceleration. Pulse-width modulation is clocked at 8 kHz, and the generated carriers combine into a 16 kHz current-ripple pattern that the motor’s inductance smooths into near-sinusoidal waveforms. The logic stage is powered by a 24 VDC control rail. Hardware protection includes an overtemperature trip at 80 °C, an overvoltage cutoff at 430 VDC, and an undervoltage threshold at 90 VDC. These shutdown points protect the power devices from transient line conditions and extended thermal stress.
The current regulator tracks command changes with a bandwidth below 2400 Hz, while the speed loop remains stable below 400 Hz, allowing tight coordination with external controllers. During speed-controlled operation, drift is limited to 0.01%, so conveyors or actuators maintain their commanded rate even as the load varies. Internally, the switching and control electronics release only 80 W as heat, simplifying cabinet airflow requirements. The aluminum chassis weighs 2.22 kg, so panel mounting imposes minimal structural load while the chassis provides enough mass for passive conduction of losses to ambient surfaces.
