Product Description:

The PRD-MZ40ASIz-62 is a digital servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen for the Servostar CD Drives series. It is intended to power and regulate Goldline submersible servo motors in motion axes exposed to immersion or high humidity. Operating between the DC bus and the motor windings, the drive modulates current, monitors resolver feedback, and exchanges real-time motion commands over a SERCOS fiber-optic ring. These functions support precise positioning and coordinated movement in automated machinery operating under demanding conditions.

This model delivers a continuous phase current of 6 A RMS, while momentary overloads of up to 18 A RMS for 500 ms accommodate rapid acceleration events. Energy is drawn from a nominal bus of 325 VDC, which the internal power stage switches at a carrier frequency of 8 kHz to produce sinusoidal outputs with low harmonic content. Current regulation is refreshed every 62.5 µs, providing the loop bandwidth needed for commanded torque to follow control references transmitted through the communication interface. Resolver signals close the velocity and position loops, allowing the controller to correct motion as operating loads change. The dedicated logic power arrangement also preserves control functions during interruptions to the main power stage.

An overtemperature circuit disables the gate drives at 80 °C to protect the IGBTs, and cabinet airflow should keep the drive’s typical internal dissipation of 80 W below this trip point. Dynamic braking energy can be routed to an external resistor bank rated at 200 W. Safe operation requires a minimum resistance of 20 Ω so braking current remains within the 15 A main fuse limit. The brake chopper engages when the bus reaches 390 VDC and releases when it falls to approximately 370 VDC. Control logic, isolated I/O, and SERCOS transceivers are powered by an external 24 V supply, allowing diagnostic communication and parameter retention while the high-power section is de-energized.
