The PRD-LC30030z-40 is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen as part of the CD Servostar CD Drives series. It supplies regulated current to brushless motors and interprets position feedback so motion axes in automated machines can be controlled in real time. By integrating power electronics with signal processing, the unit controls torque, speed, and position without external amplifiers. This arrangement makes the drive suitable for packaging, assembly, and material-handling cells that require coordinated motion. Its internal control architecture processes motor feedback and command signals while regulating the output delivered to the connected motor.
This drive accepts an analog command of ±10 VDC that is digitized across an input span of ±22,500 counts, allowing proportional control from PLC or motion card outputs. Inside the control section, a 40 MHz digital signal processor calculates phase currents and processes the feedback data used by the control loops. The commutation table and current loop operate at 16 kHz, supporting rapid adjustments to motor torque. The velocity loop operates at 4 kHz to correct speed errors and maintain the commanded motion profile. For downstream monitoring devices, the unit duplicates the commanded signal through an analog ±10 V monitor channel with 8-bit resolution. This monitor output supports signal analysis without interrupting the primary analog command path.
The communication layer uses an RS-232 serial port that transmits eight data bits and one stop bit, enabling parameter access from standard terminal software. Shaft position is reported through resolver feedback, which provides absolute angular information at power-up and supports closed-loop motor control. The resolver signal allows the drive to track rotor position while calculating the current required for commutation. Thermal protection includes an NTCR element with a trip threshold of 0.5 kΩ. A separate PTCR element switches at 12.4 kΩ, allowing the drive to disengage before excessive heating damages the motor or power electronics. These sensing elements provide independent resistance thresholds for detecting abnormal temperature conditions during continuous operation.
